How I Got Started in the DCP

My love for Disney goes all the way back to my childhood. My first visit to Disneyworld was in 2005 when I was about four years old. With that being said, I cried the entire time because I was scared of everything, and I mean everything. But when I went back in 2018, I realized there was nothing to be scared of (It’s Disney for crying out loud). I knew that working there would be a ✨magical✨experience, but I never thought I would have to opportunity to do it.

I have a pretty extensive background with Theme/Amusement Parks. I worked at Cedar Fairs Carowinds for two seasons (one last summer and one this coming summer) as a Ride Operator. Taking that job helped me realize the saying “you can’t please everyone” is absolutely true. I had to learn how to quickly diffuse situations, whether it be an unpleasant guest or a ride breakdown (not fun AT ALL!). I loved the job and I especially loved the friends that I made while I was there (#NighthawkGang2020).

I started attending Appalachian State University this January and while I was there I joined an acapella club (we are pretty good if I do say so myself) and one of the members had recently got accepted into the DCP. I thought to myself “man, that would be fun!” So I applied on a whim, not thinking that I would get in. A couple days after I applied, I received an email stating that I was a “serious candidate” and needed to do a Web Based Interview (WBI for short). After my WBI, they emailed me saying that they would like to set up a Phone Based Interview (PBI). I had my PBI on February 22, 2020 and they said that hiring decisions would be made no later than April 17th. Three days later, WDW emailed me saying I had been accepted (I was in my school cafeteria eating when I read the email and I choked on my waffle lol) and I remember running outside and calling all my family members. They were all so supportive of me and said they are going to start saving for a family trip. I am blessed beyond measure to start this amazing journey and I can’t wait to see what it holds!
